On Saturday 07th May, hundreds of local residents flocked to the annual Chew Magna Duck Race and Fete.
Not deterred by a morning that started with a downpour of rain, this hugely popular event started on time at 11:30 and again, the team at Debbie Fortune Estate Agents were there in full support.
‘All the money raised was for the primary school,’ says Liam Barnett, Senior Negotiator, 'We normally take one of our company’s vintage cars to these sort of local events, and this year we took Gus, our 1953 Morris Minor Convertible.’
‘Normally we fill our little car with balloons and ask our visitors to try and guess the total of balloons in the car.... BUT it didn’t take long for the kids to work out the numbers, as we do this competition so often through the Summer, so this year we decided to try something a little different....and so, our competition was... guess Gus’s birthday!'
Liam adds ‘After a busy day of entries we had three people who worked it out correctly, so to be fair to everyone we drew the winner out of a hat!'
Our young winner was Will who was ecstatic to win an Amazon Kindle!
‘Then came the real fun’... said Liam, ‘In the business duck race our little Debbie Fortune Estate Agents duck ‘Quackers’ really did his best, but in the end he wore himself out and barely finished!'
‘Nearly 600 ducks entered the races in all .... the sun was beating down and it was all tremendous fun. There were children playing in the water shouting encouragement to their ducks and a band was playing in the background. It was a great day, lots of smiling faces and all for a great cause, a superb village and a superb school – the whole Debbie Fortune Estate Agents team agreed it was an honour to take part and we were delighted to raise £50 to add to the total fundraising on the day for the local primary school.'
